18 Months: Enter Treats

This girl is hooked on smarties. Before she even sits on the potty she reaches up and puts out her hand "treat?". I've introduced treats and sweets into her life, and there is no going back.

I give her a couple smarties every time, even if she doesn't go potty. Most times she does go.

Again, I need to be more consistent and interrupt play time.

Lately she looks at me and says "poop" and then "nooo, diaper" as we discuss that poop should go in the toilet and not in her diaper. She nods her head in agreement. So she sort of gets it, but can't yet recognize the urge and prepare to make her way to the toilet in time. I think this is reasonable.

When I change her diaper and she is laying there helping me with wipes, trying to untape the diaper, telling me "no diaper. Toliet" and whatnot, I keep thinking---ok she is definitely too old to be pooing in a diaper...she's sitting here talking about it and quite capable for pete's sake! But we will keep with it.

At this point, I think I just need to be patient and wait for her to learn bodily urges and recognize them. I don't think that's something I can teach. So we'll keep doing the same thing until that happens.

Note: We were out of town this month, but it doesn't seem to matter. I was worried that since we didn't try the potty for 2 whole weeks, she might forget. But it's been so much a part of her life already, that the hiatus didn't seem to matter. Maybe starting so early was a good thing to establish the habit.

PS: A friend from Poland told me their kids are potty trained between 6-12 months! Give me some polish kids please. Changing diapers is so played.
